YCSD

The Youngstown Board of Education named Jeremy Batchelor as the interim superintendent of Youngstown City School District (YCSD) at the June 13, 2023, Board of Education Committee meeting. The appointment will begin on July 1 and follows the departure of Superintendent Justin M. Jennings, who resigned earlier this month. Jennings's last day is June 30.

"I am beyond honored to serve as the interim superintendent," Batchelor said. "I remain committed to Youngstown City Schools and am thrilled to continue the district's efforts in providing our scholars a high-quality education."

Batchelor earned his Bachelor of Arts in Social Science from John Carroll University and his Master of Arts in Educational Administration from Youngstown State University (YSU). A native of Youngstown, Batchelor serves as the deputy superintendent of teaching, learning, and leadership for the Youngstown City School District. Prior to that, he was the chief of staff at YCSD after a successful tenure as principal of East High School.

Before his time at YCSD, Batchelor was the assistant superintendent of Austintown Local Schools from 2014-2018. He also served in administrator roles for various school districts, including as principal for the James Martin Middle School in Charlotte, NC, as well as an area administrator for student services in the Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools.

"The board looks forward to partnering alongside Interim Superintendent Batchelor," said Youngstown Board of Education President Tiffany Patterson. "With his wealth of knowledge and years of experience as an educator, we are optimistic about the future of Youngstown City Schools."
